The National Networks for Collaborative Outreach (NNCO) scheme aims to encourage more young people into Higher Education (HE). It brings together Universities and Further Education Colleges into local networks to provide coordinated outreach to schools and colleges. The Government has provided £22 million for the NNCO scheme over academic years 2014-15 and 2015-16 with the project itself being managed by HEFCE.
The University of Lincoln
At Lincoln, we seek to place our students at the heart of everything we do and this is reflected in our excellent levels of student satisfaction – Lincoln is in the top 30% nationally for student experience, according to the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2014.
The University’s Student as Producer project engages students at all levels and across all disciplines to become active producers of knowledge, rather than passive consumers. The principle of research-engaged teaching now underpins the curriculum across all subject areas at the University of Lincoln. By working alongside academics on real research projects, students extend and improve their practical and academic skills, which in turn increases their employability. This approach to training was commended by the Quality Assurance Agency in our last institutional review.
Bishop Grosseteste University
Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) began life in 1862 as an Anglican teacher training college for women. To mark our centenary in 1962, our name was changed to Bishop Grosseteste College in honour of Robert Grosseteste, the thirteenth century scientist, philosopher, educator, and Bishop of Lincoln. Subsequent name changes in 2006 and 2012 saw our name changed to Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln, before we finally became Bishop Grosseteste University.
In recent years we’ve undergone an explosion of growth, expanding and developing our portfolio of courses into more exciting new areas than ever before. We still consider ourselves experts in education – we have been doing it for over 150 years after all – but our teaching courses now sit alongside an exciting range of other subjects. We currently educate over 2,000 students in subjects ranging from drama to psychology; foundation degree to PhD, and much more in between.
